College Update #6

Julianna Waldner- Columbia College Cougars (Columbia, MO)
So here's some exciting news from the Cougars's website:

"Prior to the game, the NAIA national office announced the first regular season 2017 NAIA Softball Top 25 Poll. The Cougars, who were not ranked in the preseason poll, are now the third ranked team in the NAIA after receiving 473 total points. This marks the highest ranking for the Cougars softball team since the 1991 season."

The Cougars have played a lot of ball in the last week, with some conference wins back at home and now they are in Florida for some non-conference games.  Unfortunately their 18 game winning streak ended yesterday with a loss to the Webber International Warriors.  Today they split their games against Lakeland and have another double header tomorrow in Florida before heading back to Missouri for conference games on Friday.  Busy Spring Break!  Julianna's average has been steadily climbing and now sits at .347 after some good hitting this week!

Maddie Hope- South Dakota State University (Brookings, SD)

Unfortunately the Jackrabbits didn't come away with any wins this weekend against  Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, however our gal Maddie had quite a few innings in relief, notably racking up six strikeouts in one of the games on Saturday.  Here's something interesting...Maddie actually ranks 23rd overall in the NCAA with her two saves on the year, and is also one shy of the SDSU record!  Next up is a series in Vermillion, SD this weekend against conference rivals University of South Dakota.

Mary Martin- University of North Dakota (Grand Forks, ND)

This past weekend the Fighting Hawks had their first program win over the University of Montana in Missoula, and by all accounts on their website played well in all three games.  Next up is a trip to Ogden, Utah this weekend to take on Weber State, another Big Sky Conference opponent.

Shaye Kemball- Mayville State University (Mayville, ND)

The Comets had a great weekend, picking up 3 wins against Valley City State.  We'll just skip right to the fourth game of the weekend- Shaye had a crazy game!  She pitched five strong innings with seven strikeouts and also went 2-4 at the plate with a double, home run and four RBI.  Wow!  This weekend the Comets head to La Crosse, Wisconsin to take on the Viterbo V-Hawks.

We're not sure if this is actually Shaye...but it kind of looks like her so we'll go with it! Photo from msucomets.com

Zoe Hicks- Iowa Western Community College (Council Bluffs, IA)

Well it's a good thing that it was Spring Break and the Reivers got in some ball ahead of the weekend...because all four of their games were rained out.  Zoe and her team played great against #8 Highland Community College but lost a couple of close one-run games.  On Thursday they picked up a couple of wins against North Platte with Zoe picking up a multiple hits and RBI's.  She even got in 5 innings of pitching as well as some time at 1B and RF.  Next up are games against William Penn University in Oskaloosa this weekend.
