Championship: Team Toba vs. BC

Well, by now most of our blog readers will know that Team Toba was unsuccessful in their final game. Nothing was really on our side it seemed, and after waiting all day and waiting out a huge rain delay it just wasn't really happening for us. Kudos to BC for the win, but we are still super proud of the girls for their 9-2 record overall, beating every team at the tournament at least once and being the first Manitoba softball team to reach the gold medal game.

Team Toba will arrive back home tonight after a lengthy day of travel, clothing hustling (the Team Toba coaches OWNED it out in front of the caf this morning!) and wandering the mean streets of Lennoxville.

Stay tuned for more blog posts in the coming days...this is not the last one!

We traded all of this!!!

Semi-Final: Team Toba vs. Quebec

What is there to say about tonight's game? Besides the fact that Team Toba killed it on the field and won the game! Straight to the gold medal game for this team!

Team Toba fell behind by 4 runs early on, but continued to chip away run by run and went into the bottom of the 7th tied 5-5with Quebec. After a lead-off hit by Courtney to lead off the inning, Mia advanced her to second and then Hailey drove in the winning run with a monster shot to the right-centre fence. It was madness as you can imagine.

Le Chapeau for this game went to the WHOLE team for so many outstanding efforts. All three of our pitchers threw in the game, we had some timely hits at the plate and some great defensive plays at key points (for example Jade's amazing dive at second base- yeah buddy!!!).

Tomorrow is the big day- gold medal game at 330pm, we have yet to find out who the opposition will be!

Game 9: Team Toba vs. PEI

Woot! Back to our winning ways! Team Toba took it to PEI this afternoon in a 14-0 win at Parc Bureau. Brooke did a great job on the mound to start and Jill came on in the third, striking out 6 in 3 innings of work. Hailey had a huge home run over the left field fence to get the bats rolling early in the game. And that wasn't all- Coach Haylee has a sweet bruise on her thigh from a PEI foul ball (photo to follow when it gets a bit more colourful), coach Niki made an appearance coaching at 3rd base and we had an epic nose bleed in left field. So lots of action all around and the momentum is building again!

Playoffs tomorrow! Not sure who we're playing yet so stay tuned!

Game 8: Team Toba vs. Quebec

Team Toba dropped a close one this afternoon to the host team from Quebec, falling on the wrong side of a 1-0 game. The ladies just couldn't string together any offensive plays throughout the game, but did a good job defensively to hold Quebec to 1 run from the second inning onward. Although she didn't get the victory on the mound, Brooke was awarded Le Chapeau for her hard work throwing two complete games today for Team Toba.

Tomorrow is the last day of round robin competition and the ladies face PEI at noon in their only game.

Game 7: Team Toba vs. Alberta

If you were at this game or watched it online, you'll know that this was not our finest game. HOWEVER, good teams come through in those games, and this is what Team Toba did! The ladies got out to a quick start, scoring 4 runs in the bottom of the first, and then scored a couple more later in the game to finish on top of Alberta 7-5. We had co-winners of Le Chapeau- both Jade and Courtney had awesome triples, singles and defensive plays.

Next up is Quebec at 4!

Game 6: Team Toba vs. New Brunswick

The great plays and timely hits continue! Team Toba improved to 6-0 in round robin play with a 14-2 victory over New Brunswick in 4.5 innings. Highlights from the game included 9 strike outs by starting pitcher Regan as well as an inside the park home run by Stef and a monster shot over the right field fence for Mia. Le Chapeau was awarded to Mia during a post game chocolate milk celebration.

Coach Wayne also made an appearance coaching at third base tonight and let's just say it's a good thing he had a healthy lead after that episode where he abandoned poor Stef on the bases...

Dani lookin' all tough!

A rare appearance by the Master Blogger.

Game 5: Team Toba vs. Sask

Finally a nice sunny day at the park! Today Team Toba improved their record to 5-0 with a win over Sask by a score of 8-6. After scoring a couple of early runs, the ladies picked up their game in the bottom of the 6th, scoring five runs to give them the lead. In that inning we had a couple of triples, doubles, stolen bases and very loud cheering. Le Chapeau was awarded to Jade for her triple to get things started in the 6th inning and her dive to get the second out in the top of the 7th. Honourable mention goes to Britt, who hit a pinch hit triple!

Next up is New Brunswick at 6pm.

Thanks to the men's volleyball team for their creative cheering!

Game 4: Team Toba vs. BC

Could you hear the cheering and cow bells back at home during this game? It was crazy! Tonight Team Toba knocked off Team BC 3-2 in front of a large crowd at Parc Bureau. The ladies played great from start to finish, battling hard at the plate and getting hits when they needed them. Brooke was on the mound and pitched a great game, finishing with five strike outs. Crash had some great dives at second and Mia had that double play...

The winner of Le Chapeau was just named moments ago in the dorm hallways...well done to Brigitte! Brigitte hit a stand up triple and drove in a couple of key runs today...and that hit would have been 20 feet over the fence at Blumberg!

Game 3: Team Toba vs. Nova Scotia

Team Toba took on Nova Scotia this afternoon at Parc Bureau. After getting off to a slow start the ladies busted the game open in the bottom of the fifth and won the game 7-0. Regan did a great job earning the shut out on the mound and Courtney was awarded Le Chapeau for her 3-run triple.

Up next is BC at 6 tonight, let's hope the rain stays away!

Oh, and some pics from a pre-game interview with local tv.

Game 2: Team Toba vs. Ontario

We didn't see much action in this game until the bottom of the 6th inning. The game was scoreless until this point, but Team Toba busted out with 6 runs to take the lead. We had great hits that inning from three pinch hitters- Britt, Brigitte and Olivia, and for their timely hitting they were collectively awarded Le Chapeau! However, the game didn't end right away...a short 10 minute downpour produced a 2 hour delay while the diamond was fixed up. The grounds crew  did a great job digging a trench and getting things cleaned up. We finished the last out of the game with a strike out by Brooke, great job finishing the game after that long break.

Nova Scotia and BC are on tap tomorrow!
