Brittany Hince Siwicki - The 2014/15 UBC Thunderbird season wrapped up with a first round playoff tournament in Lawrenceville, Georgia. The team competed well but did not get the outcome they hoped for. Brittany recorded 3 homeruns on the season. The varsity softball program's future at UBC is uncertain after the controversial Athletics review and therefore no program is guaranteed for next season. As such Brittany played her last game as a Thunderbird and has returned home where she will attend the University of Manitoba pursuing her major in Environmental Design and continue to play with the Smitty's Terminators. She truly enjoyed her seasons with the Thunderbirds, the friends and the fond memories. Brittany will continue to promote the sport of softball and shares her developmental skills with players by coordinating and actively participating as a Clinician for various clinics/camps on behalf of Softball Manitoba.
Regan Lawrence - Regan finished her Senior Year at the NAIA College World Series in Sioux City Iowa tossing a 6 hit, 5 strikeout performance in a 2-1 loss to Mobile Alabama in the elimination game. Regan’s year was highlighted by qualifying for the World Series which involved winning their Conference (4th straight year) and winning the National Qualifier in Irvine California where they matched up against the # 3 and #13 seeded teams in the nation and came out on top. Regan picked up all 3 pitching wins at the National Qualifier and all 5 wins at the Conference Championship. Offensively Regan batted .301 for the season with 14 doubles, 1 triple, and 2 home runs. She scored 32 runs and had 50 hits, 13 BB, and 39 RBI. Her slugging average was .434. She had 5 stolen bases in 5 attempts and only struck out 16 times in 166 AB. Regan pitched and played outfield for the Dickinson Blue Hawks, and was errorless for the season.
On the mound Regan had a 26 win and 8 loss record, with a 2.05 ERA in 211.1 innings pitched. She had 189 strikeouts, 50 walks and was Conference leader in strikeouts, ERA, innings pitched, wins, and many other categories. Regan was selected Top Pitcher for the Conference for the 2nd straight year, 1st Team All-Star for the 4th straight year and was selected Pitcher of the Week for the North Star Athletic Conference 3 times this season. Regan was also honoured by being selected as the winner of the Loraine C. Schumacher Award for the Most Outstanding Female Athlete for Dickinson University
Stefanie Sheard - Unfortunately, the young SFU softball team finished the season 17-29, however, Stef was a top contributor to the teams successes. As the teams primary 3rd baseman, Stefanie saw many hard hit balls, one of which, was a line drive hit so hard into her knee that it sailed so deep into the outfield that it was nearly caught by the left fielder. Stefanie finished her season leading the team in runs batted in (26), doubles (9), runners advanced (19). She was a member of the top 5 in every other hitting category. Not only did she excel on the diamond, she also excelled in the classroom; with the highest GPA on her team, Stefanie was named Academic All-Conference. This was a huge honour for her as she was only the second player in the history of SFU softball program to gain this recognition. Stef was voted funniest person, most studious, most excited, biggest suckup and worst action shots by her senior class. Though it may be a rough action shot, the hit in the photo is actually a homerun. Stefanie is looking forward to coaching Winnipeg Gold in the 2016 Powersmart MB Games.
