College Update #9
Brittany Hince Siwicki: The Thunderbirds finished up their season this friday at the regionals in Victoria, Texas. They finished the tournament with a 2-2 record knocking out the 4th ranked team in the NAIA. Brittany went in to pinch run in each game. Britt will be returning to UBC in the fall and is excited to start another season with the T-birds! So now onto the Canada Summer Games!
Courtney Kwasnitza: season concluded
Dani Klassen: Dodge City’s season game to an early end when they lost their first two tournament games. In the first game they lost 3 – 2 to Highland and followed that up with a loss of 12 – 4 to Brown Mackie. With two losses they are knocked out of the tournament and the girls are coming home. Go Team Toba.
Hailey Unger: The Dakota Wesleyan University softball team ended its season with a pair of losses at the Great Plains Athletic Conference postseason tournament Thursday afternoon in Sioux City, Iowa.
The Tigers – who earned the seventh seed at the league’s tournament – lost 13-1 in five innings to No. 2 Morningside College to start their tournament run, and ended the year with a 10-2 loss in six innings to sixth-seeded Nebraska Wesleyan University. The Tigers don’t lose any seniors to graduation and return a core of key players, along with a handful of incoming freshmen for 2014.The team coming through some tough issues like weather and flu to make it to the tournament as such a young squad. The future is very bright!
Makensy Payne: It looked like a great week was shaping up for the Dodge City Lady Conquistadors when, on Wednesday, the All Conference Team selections were announced, and Dodge had four players on the team. Makensy was selected to the All Conference First Team at 2nd base, an honour which had her feet off the ground all week. In her words, “First Team All Conference! And I’m Canadian!”

Unfortunately, the end of the week wasn’t as much fun, as the Lady Conqs lost both their playoff games in the conference finals. The first was a hard fought 3-2 loss to Highland. With two out in the seventh, Crash singled her way on base, but the team couldn’t convert and had to look forward to game two. In that game, the powerhouse lineup just couldn’t string hits together leading to a 12-4 loss. There were a lot of sad faces on the bus ride home as the girls made the realization that many of them wouldn’t be playing together again. Thank goodness for Facebook and Twitter!
Regan Lawrence: Dickinson State advanced to the 2nd round of the NAIA Championships this past weekend as they won their qualifying tournament. They defeated Valley City 3-1, Jamestown 5-2 in 12 innings with a walk off homerun, lost to Great Falls Montana 2-1 and then defeated Great Falls 14-2 in 5 innings to take the tournament. Regan hit a RBI double against Valley City to spark a 3 run inning in the opener. Location of the next round is yet to be determined.
Taylor Studler: Minot had a very successful weekend finishing 2nd in their conference tournament. Unfortunately Taylor is still sidelined with a high ankle sprain she suffered last week sliding to break up a double play. She is hoping to be back in action soon as they await news of where they play next...
