College Update #8

Brittany Hince Siwicki:  The Thunderbirds have been practising in preparation for next weeks Regionals. They played two exhibition games against the boys splitting with one win and a loss. The team leaves Monday morning for Texas.

Courtney Kwasnitza:  Illinois College split a pair of non-conference home games against Millikin University Thursday, losing the opener, 7-3, and rallying for a 5-2 win in the nightcap. IC closed out its regular season at home Sunday, needing to sweep a doubleheader against Cornell College to advance to the Midwest Conference Championship next weekend. Despite being limited to 4 hits in Game 1, the Lady Blues were tied 1-1 after 7 innings. IC could not answer the 2-spot by Cornell in the top of the 10th inning, ending their championship bid. The Lady Blues showed some grit in Game 2, rebounding with an 8-6 victory. Courtney went 2 for 3 at the plate, with a triple, single, RBI, and run scored as IC closed out a successful season. IC finishes with a record of 20-14 (10-5 in conference play), improving on their 9-22 record of a year ago. IC loses only one starter to graduation for next year.

Courtney was a defensive workhorse behind the plate in 2013, catching every inning for the Lady Blues. Offensive highlights include breaking the Illinois College single-season hit record, and being consistently near the top of the Midwest Conference leader board in hits, batting average, runs scored, on-base percentage, and stolen bases

Dani Klassen:  The Dodge City Conquistadors started the playoffs on a good note. They faced Cloud Community College in round one.  Dodge won both games by scores of 10 – 8 and 8 – 5.  Next weekend they are off to Topeka, Kansas for the league championships. This will be the big test for Dodge as they will face the top teams in the league. In other news Dani will be playing for Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, S.D  next year. She is looking forward to playing with Hailey Unger and Jill Dickson also members of Team Toba

Hailey Unger:  Dakota Wesleyan softball team played 6 games this week (3 wins and 3 loses). In those 6 games Hailey hit her first 2 home runs along with 5 RBI’s.

Next games:
April 29 MIDLAND UNIVERSITY* (DH)
HOME 5 p.m.
April 30 MOUNT MARTY COLLEGE* (DH)
HOME 4 p.m.
May 2-4 GPAC Postseason Tournament
Sioux City, Iowa TBD

Makensy Payne:  It’s been a few years since the Conquistadors have won a playoff game, so there was lots of excitement in Dodge Saturday as the Lady Conqs started the District Championship with a 10-8 and 8-5 series sweep of Cloud County. Makensy had a 500 on base percentage for the day with a hit and a run scored in game one, and two walks and a stolen base in game two. She also contributed in the field, especially in the fifth inning of game one, when Cloud County had runners at second and third with one out. Crash snagged a line drive and stepped on second base for an unassisted double play, killing the opposition’s rally. On to the next round in Topeka…

Regan Lawrence:  The red hot bats continued for the Blue Hawks as Dickinson completed a 4 game sweep of Mayville improving their record to 22-13 and a 11 game winning streak. The Hawks look well prepared for this weekends Conference playoff with the winner advancing to the next round. Regan picked up 2 wins for a record of 7-4. At the plate she went 6 for 10 with 2 walks and a couple of stolen bases.

Taylor Studler:  no update
