College Update #6 - snow and more snow!

Brittany Hince Siwicki:  UBC finished its regular season with a record of 23-19 finishing with a hard fought battle against the clan (Simon Fraser) giving up the winning run in the bottom of the eight inning with a final score of 5-6. Brittany pinch ran but remained stranded as UBC left 9 on base in the overall game. The team is now preparing for Regionals with two exhibition games next week and practices. Britt is in the midst of finals so next week finds her also having to write 3 final exams...

Courtney Kwasnitza:  Illinois College split a doubleheader at Greenville College on Tuesday. The Lady Blues won the opener, 8-3. Courtney had two hits, one of which was a triple, to go with two runs, an RBI and a stolen base. Courtney added two hits in a Lady Blues’ 4-3 nightcap loss.  IC won three straight contests at the Midwest Conference Classic in East Peoria, Illinois. The Lady Blues beat Ripon College, 7-3, and Beloit College, 9-0, on Friday, while topping St. Norbert College, 6-2, on Saturday. Courtney was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs against St. Norbert. The Lady Blues sported special black and gold jerseys with the inscription “We wear black and gold for Zach” to honour a young 7 year-old boy with leukemia. With the win, the Lady Blues improved their season record to 13-11. IC has already eclipsed last year’s win total (9).

The Lady Blues continued to roll on Sunday with two more wins to finish a perfect 5-0 for the Crossover tournament. IC beat Lawrence University, 4-1, and Carroll University, 8-2, to top the standings. Courtney had 2 doubles in the Lawrence game. After 5 straight wins, IC's season record improves to 15-11 as they head into the home strech of their schedule."

Dani Klassen: Dodge City played 4 games this week. The first 2 against Labette were a test to see how good they are this year. Labette is one of the stronger teams in the league and handed Dodge 2 loses, 8-0 and 6-5. Dodge then faced Coffeyville. What can I say here but for those of you who follow western history and have heard of the Shoot Out at the OK Corral which allegedly happened in Dodge City, Wyatt Earp and Doc Holiday would be proud of these girls as Dodge won both games with scores of 16-11 and 21-18. That’s right, there’s a new Sherriff in town. This brings Dodge City’s record to 19 W and 18 L. Dani continues to hover around the .500 mark at bat and has 5 stolen bases on the season.

Hailey Unger: MITCHELL, S.D. – The three-day blizzard in Mitchell and the state of South Dakota has set spring sports back at Dakota Wesleyan University and forced changes in most all sports schedules for the coming days and weeks. The Tiger softball team canceled a nonconference doubleheader at Dakota State scheduled for Saturday, April 13, in Madison. That game was originally scheduled to be played Wednesday, April 10, was pushed back to Saturday and is now canceled. DWU also pushed back its GPAC doubleheader against Mount Marty College for the second time. The game, originally scheduled for April 9, was pushed back to Monday, April 15, and has been pushed back once more to Monday, April 22, at McWhirter Field in Mitchell.

Makensy Payne: Dodge City’s pitching staff is hurting, but the team still managed to score enough runs to split the week with 3 wins and 3 losses, putting them in the middle of the conference standings. Crash, now the regular shortstop, did her part, batting 10 for 18 plus 2 walks. Carmen and some friends were there to see her doing some solid fielding, including an impressive diving stop and flip for an out on Friday, and some consistent hitting, including a five hit day with her second home run of the season on Saturday.

Regan Lawrence:  Dickinson Blue Hawks lost the entire week's games due to the weather and the coming week looks grim. The Hawks sit at 14 wins and 13 losses, and Regan's pitching record is 4 wins and 4 losses.

Taylor Studler:  All scheduled games were cancelled due to poor weather except for 2 JV games Thursday which Minot won convincingly. Taylor set a new personal record being hit by pitches 3 times!!! serious snowstorm hitting Minot now so who knows if any games will be held this week!
