College Update #1

Brittany Hince Siwicki:  UBC's record stands at 10-11 and they are off to Tucson, Arizona today.  Brittany was able to play short stop in 6 games before splitting open her hand.  Her hand is now healed and she is ready to go!

Courtney Kwasnitza: The Illinois College Lady Blues opened their 2013 season at the “Rebel Spring Games” tournament March 3-7 in Orlando, Florida. They played 8 games; Won 3, Lost 5. Courtney caught and batted lead-off with a BA of .440 and OB % of .517 in 29 plate appearances. Illinois College heads to Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Terre Haute, Indiana on March 16 for 2 games.

Danielle Klassen:  Dani is still recovering from shoulder surgery in August 2012 to repair a torn labrum in her throwing shoulder.  She is on the mend and close to being back in the lineup on a regular basis. This season she has made a few pinch running appearances and more recently was called upon to take a regular spot in the batting lineup against SCCC where she singled, grounded out and struck out. Many of Dodge City’s games have been postponed because of a freak snowstorm that went through Kansas a few weeks ago. This can only mean a heavy schedule once the weather warms up, but hopefully this will give her extra time to get ready for the season.

Hailey Unger:   Hailey leads her team in batting average at .313 and slugging percentage at .563.  DWUs record stands at 0-10...but on the bright side, the team is currently in California where they will look to improve their record.

Makensy Payne: At Dodge City, the DC3 Conquistadors have faced some early season challenges with unexpected snow and untimely breakdowns of the new touring bus while in Texas. The team’s record is 5 wins and 6 losses overall and 2 and 2 in league play. Makensy has done her part, starting most games at second and one at short, and batting .379 overall with a .419 on base percentage. In her four league games, she’s really hit her stride, batting 7 for 10.

Regan Lawrence:  Dickinson State currently has 5 wins 5 losses. They played at St. Cloud, Minnesota where they went 2 and 2. Currently they are in Tucson, Arizona where they have gone 3 and 3. This weekend, Regan got the win for her teams fanning 5, allowing 3 hits, 1 walk and no earned runs.

Taylor Studler: Minot State is currently 8-1. Last weekend was the first time in 15 years of playing ball that these two teammates faced each other- Taylor (Minot State) and Regan (Dickinson State) in a indoor tournament at the St Cloud Dome. Taylor is off on an extended road trip to Florida as part of spring training.
